01 — Masonry
Masonry contractor in Hamilton, Ontario
New masonry, repairs and restoration for Hamilton homes, built to be structurally sound first and good-looking second.

What this involves
Masonry is the trade we are most particular about. Brick, stone and block are only as good as the base they sit on, the mortar that joins them and the way water is kept out of the wall, so we plan every job from the ground up rather than from the surface down.
Hamilton has a lot of older brick housing stock, and a climate that is hard on masonry: freeze–thaw cycling, road salt and moisture all work on mortar joints and stone faces. Some of our work is new construction. A lot of it is working out what is wrong with an existing wall, porch or chimney and fixing it properly.

Explore in detail
- BrickworkStraight courses, consistent joints and bonds that respect the house they are joining.
- StoneworkNatural and manufactured stone, laid with attention to colour, coursing and detail.

When to call us
Call us if you can see cracked or missing mortar, bricks that are flaking or loose, steps that have shifted, a leaning wall, efflorescence (white staining) or water getting in where a wall meets a porch or chimney. These are easier and cheaper to deal with early.
How we approach it
- 01We look at the wall, the water path and the base before quoting.
- 02Materials are matched to the existing masonry where repairs are involved.
- 03Work is set out with string lines and levels, and joints are finished consistently.
- 04The site is left clean, and we walk you through what was done.

Masonry: common questions
Do you only do masonry?
No. Masonry is a core focus, but Novastone also handles exterior and interior renovations and manages larger multi-trade projects as a general contractor.
Can you match existing brick or stone?
We always try to. Colour, size, texture and the mortar mix all affect how a repair blends in, and we will talk through realistic options at the site visit.
Do I need a permit for masonry work?
It depends on the scope. Cosmetic repairs usually do not, while structural work and some retaining walls can. We will tell you what we think applies when we see the job.
