Masonry — Stonework
Stonework and stone masonry in Hamilton
Natural and manufactured stone, laid with attention to colour, coursing and detail.

What this involves
Stone is unforgiving. Colour variation, face dimensions and joint width all have to be balanced as the wall goes up, because you cannot easily fix the pattern once it is set. We mix from several pallets, dry-lay as we go and stagger the larger pieces so the finished wall reads naturally.
Stonework suits entries, steps, foundation facings, columns and feature walls. It also pairs well with brick, concrete and interlock, which is how a lot of Hamilton homes are finished at the front. We build the substrate and drainage properly so the stone stays put.

Stonework: common questions
Natural or manufactured stone?
Both have a place. Natural stone is heavier and more variable, manufactured is lighter and more uniform. We will talk through budget, look and structure at the site visit.
Can stone be added over an existing wall?
Often, depending on what the wall is made of and its condition. A proper substrate is essential, and we will assess that first.
